Rio Nicholas - Remembrances

Invocation by Sig Ep Fraternity brothers at 1st 4th of July Party.

We are honored to be here speaking on Sigma Phi Epsilon's behalf about Rio. Only knowing Rio for four months we felt awkwared coming to Fredericksburg and speaking about him. Everyone here has known Rio throughout his life however we got to kow him well enough to determine that he w as a true brother to everyone he knew and exemplified the cardinal principles of Sigma Phi Epsilon.
we will now read the creed of Sigma Phi Epsilon. This creed is what every member of our fraternity strives for. [the creed is read]. The creed in which you have just heard contains our three cardinal principles... Virtue, Diligence, and brotherly love.
Rio was virtuous in his daily life both as a member of the fraternity, the Colorado School of Mines community, and the Fredericksburg community. Rio showed virtue in our hme through a strong committment to the house and it's philantrophy and community service projects. Rio was also virtuous in everday life by being an excellent role-model and strong leader for everone he knew.
Rio's diligence was often observed in his strong academic commitment. As a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon a large amount of time is required to become an active member. Therefore, Rio made sacrifices to uphold his commitment to our fraternity. Rio possessed diligence in his incredible athletic ability and his participation in our Intramural sports competing against other fraternities. With diligence Rio was able to maintain his interests in music, school, and ROTC.
Rio's enormous heart and incredible personality allowed him to become a great brother. Being a loyal friend to many he showed brotherly love. Rio's charasmatic personality is remembered through his ability to cheer others up with that knowing warm smile. Rio embraced brotherly love in all aspects of his life, to his friends, and to his family.
In closing, we want to thank you for allowing us this opportunity to spend time with you, Rio's friends and family, through your eyes we gave gotten to know Rio much better than we ever could have. The greatest expericne we have had in Texas is meeting Rio's friends. When we have been introduced as Rio's friends from Colorado, people have told us that they are honored to meet us. I believe that is the greatest compliment I know to give to Rio.
