This page was created for researchers of the descendants of James Isham Gideon (5th-great grandfather of the webmaster), who was born in Cork, Ireland in 1748, sailed to Virginia in 1764, and served under George Washington in the Revolutionary War.

Like many American families, the descendants of James Isham Gideon were divided during the Civil War. Several Gideons fought for the Union and many for the Confederacy. Several branches of the family had settled in Missouri and Arkansas, states which bordered each side of the line between the north and south, and cousins fought against cousins in the great War Between the States.
